The ProAvio EditBox 4PM is a 4 bay Port Multiplier eSATA enclosure. Offering tremendous flexibility and speed, the EditBox can be used in a video editing, photography, music, publishing or data back-up environment. When in a JBOD scenario, it allows 4 SATA drives to be housed in a compact enclosure. With the ability to remove and insert drives on the trays, and buy more trays to add more hard drives, it is a convenient way to store and access a lot of data. Using your OS built-in RAID formatting, you can also format the 4 drives as a RAID 1 or 0. RAID 0 on a desktop tower will allow video editors to do Standard Def 8 or 10 bit Uncompressed with no problems, and handle anything in HiDef except Uncompressed. It connects to the computer via a single eSATA cable to a Port Multiplier eSATA card, and if it is a 4 port PM card, it will allow you to add 3 more enclosures to a single card, allowing 16 drives to be attached to a single eSATA card. RAID 5 is possible with a compatible eSATA card that has RAID 5 on it.

ProAvio Edit Box 8 PM SATA Array
When a 4 bay enclosure is not enough, the ProAvio EditBox 8PM comes to the rescue. Built on the same premise as the 4 bay enclosure, but with 8 drives, allowing a maximum of 8 TB to be connected in one enclosure. Connects to the computer via two eSATA cables to a Port Multiplier eSATA card, and if it is a 4 port PM card, will allow you to add another 8 bay enclosure, allowing 16 drives to be connected to a single eSATA 4 port card. For uncompressed HD, we recommend the EditBox 8MS listed below.

ProAvio Edit Box 8 MiniSAS SATA Array
How does a 8 TB Array screaming at 515 MB/s in RAID 0 or 500 MB/s in RAID 5 for thousands less than other solutions sound?
With 8 removable SATA drives and a high-speed miniSAS interface, the EditBox 8 MiniSAS can support Uncompressed HiDef in a RAID 0 or 5 environment that is significantly cheaper than SCSI or Fibre, without sacrificing speed.
MiniSAS vs eSATA - The EditBox 8 MS uses miniSAS connectors connected to a miniSAS card in your computer. MiniSAS has a more rugged connector than eSATA, and the miniSAS technology is faster than eSATA in RAID scenarios. The drawback to miniSAS is there are no easy solutions for notebooks, limited and hard-to-get solutions for older PCI-X computers, and limited to 8 drives per miniSAS card (at this time - they're working on that).
