Nikon AF-S DX "VR II" 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 G IF ED
$759 - more in soon
Display model to try out in the store.

This very popular Nikon lens, designed for use exclusively with Nikon DX format digital SLRs, offers a broad 18-200mm focal range for use in a variety of situations (equivalent to a 27-300 lens in 35mm format). Two Extra-low Dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements minimize chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast. This auto-focus lens incorporates Nikon's Silent Wave Motor for fast, quiet focusing from as close as 50cm from the subject through its entire focal range. It employs a seven-blade rounded diaphragm opening that achieves a natural blur for out-of-focus elements. Other features include a manual/auto mode for rapid switching between autofocus and manual focus operation, VR II vibration reduction for longer hand-held exposures, internal focusing design for smoother focusing and improved balance and the Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) that offers superb color reproduction while minimizing ghosting and flare.

The updated "VR II" version adds a zoom lock switch.

NOTE: The 18-200mm was designed to be solely used with the smaller APS-C size image sensors of the Nikon Digital cameras. This lens will not work on Nikon digital cameras with full frame sensors or Nikon 35mm cameras.

Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED
$1759 - special order - takes 3 to 5 business days
We have a display model in the store to play with.

Nikon's revamped premium standard lens for full-frame sensors, or a moderate telephoto zoom on cropped sensor Nikon cameras. Critically acclaimed. Excellent resolution even at f/2.8, and sharp edge-to-edge. Nano Crystal Coat reduces ghost and flare. Rubber mount seal for a certain degree of weather-proofing. Three aspherical lenses and three ED glass elements for higher quality images. SWM for quiet and fast auto-focusing. Is an AF-S lens, so it's compatible with D40/D40x/D60 cameras for auto-focus. Comes with a lens hood and soft case.

OPTICAL QUALITY - Spectacular. Best performance at f/2.8 we've ever seen from a standard lens. Edge-to-edge sharpness is excellent at f/2.8, which usually it is not very good. Stopping down only makes it better, but not by much. Better than the Canon 24-70 L lens. Bottom line - if you have a full-frame Nikon, and you got the money, this is the best standard lens out there. Only drawback - a bit on the heavy size. And the cost.

Tamron AF 18-270 f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD
Nikon - $629 - special order

Tamron's next generation 18-270mm, the world’s lightest, smallest 15x zoom optimized for use on APS-C- DSLRs, continues the pursuit of the ideal all-in one zoom lens. Combining prior award-winning achievements with new engineering breakthroughs yielded the remarkable 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Piezo Drive). Special piezoelectric technology now delivers faster, quieter precision autofocusing. Tamron's exclusive tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization, featuring three pairs of driving coils and low-function ball bearings placed around the VC optical group, combats camera shake-related image blur. It's Tamron VC that allows handheld shooting at as many as four shutter speeds slower than otherwise possible with a dramatically stable viewfinder experience. Compactness and light weight are preserved, thanks in part to the VC mechanism's newly-developed moving coil mechanism. Defining compositional freedom the 18-270mm Di-II VC's incredible 15x zoom range provides a 35mm picture angle equivalency of 28mm to 419mm, with image fidelity assured by advanced optical design featuring LD glass and aspherical optics, working in concert to render crisp, colorful and faithful images.
