The Rode VideoMic exhibits an unusually wide bandwidth for its size and is the best full size shotgun we've seen in this price range. It is ultra lightweight, yet rugged due to ABS construction. The VideoMic is powered by a standard 9 Volt battery and offers a Low Battery LED status indicator and a switchable high pass filter to reduce unwanted low frequency rumble. The VideoMic attaches to any camcorder that has the standard hot-shoe fitting and utilizes a stereo mini jack for audio output.
Rode makes a windsock for this mic called the Dead Cat which is just a furry sock that you can pull on right over the foam windscreen included with the mic and is easy to store in your carrying bag. One year warranty can be extended to 10 years if you register your product online at Rodemic.com within 30 days of purchase.
Note: we are often asked if this is the Ver. 2 and although Rode makes no such distinction on their website, you can differentiate the current shipping model from the older one by the retail packaging which has changed to a black box instead of the original blue box it used to come in. The plastic finish of the mic has changed slightly from smooth to a more matte finish but all other features are identical.
